The Anti-Theist Network is nothing but a new hate group!
When I posted, “I found a new web site titled "The Anti-theism Network" on the Amazon Religion discussion board one post was “Awesome. Another hate group is born.” That caused me to reflect for a moment. I’m definitely an antitheist and I’m a proud member of this newtwork, so am I now a member of a hate group?

If a hate group is a group that does not want religion to interfere with education, healthcare, government, justice system, the freedoms of others, get tax breaks etc...
No this isn't a hate group. The idea is not to be driven by hate but legitimate concern for one's fellow human beings.

Below is my response to "Another hate group is born". Just wanted to share.
Chuck Ludikee says:
Barry Soetoro: Awesome. Another hate group is born.
Chuck: Such a simple dismissal. To be against something automatically makes one a hater? What if a group organized against pedophiles? Would it be an acceptable "hate" group? Are some things worthy of hate? Because of what pedophiles do, shouldn't we all be members of pedophile hate groups?
For the record, I'm an antitheist, against the idea not the person. I have zero hate towards the religious. I believe they are simply misguided on many levels and for many different reasons. I want religion to die from an overdose of knowledge, but I want zero harm, other than the emotional discomfort that comes from being freed of their superstition, to come to the adherents.
On a personal level, how do you feel about pedophiles? Would you be willing to join a "hate" group against pedophiles? If so, join us, because God was a pedophile. He ordered that 32,000 young girls be handed over to His brave warriors after they slaughtered their fathers, mothers, married sisters, brothers of all ages, and their little sisters that weren't "women children." Don't believe me? Read it for yourself, Numbers 31:17-18 for the order to kill all the nonvirgins, little boys, and girls too young to be "women children" and verse 35 for the head count for the girls given to God's brave soldiers.
Also consider that there is a very high probabilty that someone will die today because of religion, both from violance and ignorance. It is high time we free ourselves from superstition.

To say that this web forum constitutes a hate group, is an assumption, without evidence. There is so little posted on this site at present, that it has no real 'flavour'. There are so few members, that it is almost not worthy of the label a 'group', YET!

Gila,
No, we’re not a hate group. Well, maybe we are in the same way that one hates cancer but not the individual hosting the caner. I do want to stop the spread of harmful superstitions. I view them very much the same way I view cancer. Maybe the tobacco industry is a better analogy. Tobacco does do some good, but the harm it does far out weights the good. It creates jobs and raises taxes, but the flip side it subjects millions to horrific death. I think the world would be better off without tobacco. I think the world would be much better off without religion.
I hope we grow membership enough to organize and make a contribution to the death of religion! We need to keep visiting and posting until we reach the tipping point. We also need to spread on other sites that might have interested people.

It is always easier to label and dismiss than to actually take the time to learn the facts. Being anti-theist has no more to do with hate than would being against superstition.

I agree completely, Chuck. What I actually hate is being told how to think, and having others insist it is the only 'correct' way to view things - which is often the case with religions.Chuck Ludikee wrote:Gila,

On the other hand, I recognise that organised religions do a lot of constructive work in their various societies. Typically, here in Australia, The Salvation Army does a lot of worthwhile charitable work. If religion does go the way of the dinosaur, and the dodo, then secular society would have to cover all of the good work they now do.
Unfortunately, most religions are also inextricably bound up in superstition, and falsehoods. Take creationism as a case in point. As a an alternative to evolution, creationism is a falsehood, based on what seems nothing more than a fairy story.
It seems illogical for anyone to say that any group is nothing but X, or Y or Z, (ie. the suggestion that this forum is nothing but a 'new' hate group). Similarly not every aspect of any religion is disagreeable.

I agree with you Gila. The defining characteristic of religion - that clearly seperates it from other institutions - is the supernatural beliefs, rituals and codes. In theory there's nothing positive that religion does that could not be done by some secular replacement. People will have to realise that good morality is not exclusive to religion and, arguably, it's only when religions take on more moderate and secular ideas that they become peaceful etc. I think that's a clear historical trend.
The question is: When members of The Salvation Army do something good, are they doing it because they're religious? Or is it really just because they are a good person? I actually think religious people don't let themselves take the credit for their good actions (yet they always do for the bad actions... ). I think that this might be because they're taught that they are unworthy, sinful etc. etc.

Re: The Anti-Theist Network is nothing but a new hate group!
I don't know the answer to that one, Admin, and in many cases I suspect, nor do the religious know. That is beside the point.Admin wrote:The question is: When members of The Salvation Army do something good, are they doing it because they're religious? What I was getting at is that if religion is to ' die off ', then there is a lot that is good, that is currently done by the religiously identified, which would need to be taken up by secular groups/individuals. As long as religious groups/individuals do good deeds, and claim to do so in the name of religion, then religions are likely to persist, regardless of whether or not there is such a thing as 'God'.
