Basically it looks to me like religion in the US is slowly fracturing into smaller and smaller pieces. The larger organizations like the Catholic church and the mainstream Protestant mega-churches are losing their followers to smaller churches. I tend to think that church goers are starting to see that a lot of the more powerful religious hierarchy are outrageously corrupt.

Wishful thinking?

Not at all wishful thinking. It is clearly displayed in recent studies that the most gaining group is unaffiliated. What you guys need in America is equal rights for religious and nonreligious organizations.

Seeker,
I have to agree, and I have to believe that those fractures are a sign of some sort of dissatisfaction, and that means some of them might be amenable to some of that critical thinking you champion. I think it has to be a good thing and might just be a precursor to the death of superstition.

drunkenmonkey04,

I bookmarked that article. I want to read some of the associated articles and subjects. That is something that we antitheists should be very concerned about. To change the tax status in our favor or to weaken the churches would be a very good thing!

Unfortunately there is no politician and very few bureaucrats willing to take on religion. I can think of no reason that religious organizations should be tax exempt.

Exactly, as the old saying goes - "Rome wasn't built in a day" and superstition won't disappear with a whim of a magic wand or whatever, it s a process that will take many years =)
